Study Smart

You’re bored. You’re wired. You’re tired. You’re busy. You’re distracted. But losing focus on your studies is not something that must accompany all of those issues.Studying for any exam and test can be difficult and stressful. In fact, many people find it hard to focus on the task they’re trying to accomplish. However, there are some short, simple things to do that can really help you focus when studying.

  1. Fix a suitable place for studying: Find a nice, quiet place with comfortable chair, like your sitting room, preferably without a television, a computer or a cell phone within your reach.
  2. Focus on your priorities: Take time out for priorities you are looking for, which will help you reach your goal. This will also motivate you and focus on studying.
  3. Keep things handy: Your pencils and pens, highlighters and books should be within your reach so that you are not distracted while studying. Organize the area if need be so the clutter doesn’t clutter your mind. There should be no reason you have to get up.
  4. Prepare a timetable: Set a routine for everything. Your timetable could include the time you should go to bed, the time you should have your meals, and – most importantly – the time you should spend on studies. There is no hard and fast rule and you should of course allow some flexibility depending on how things go. But establishing a routine is essential, and do try to stick to your study timetable as best as you can.
  5. Keep snacks ready: No energy drinks or coffee, because sooner or later, you will crash out. Fruit and water are good, because they are simple and effective at releasing carbohydrates. Try to keep it to something simple, like a handful of nuts, blueberries, or dark chocolate.
  6. Keep away your phone and other electronic devices: This will help you avoid temptations to be off-task and allow you to stay on your plan. Only use your computer if you need it for your studies. Put your phone in airplane mode unless you need it on for an emergency.
